LiveQuestions are answered by an OpenAI model using OpenAI's live web search tool via the API. This closely approximates ChatGPT search, but answers in the ChatGPT app can differ because of personalisation, memory, location and model version.

How are competitors and sources found?

Competitors come only from the actual answers — businesses the AI recommends as alternatives, verified against the answer text. Sources come from the citation data the AI search returns, never from URLs guessed in the text.
