AI Visibility for Dentists

Patients increasingly ask AI assistants which dentist to see — for a check-up, an emergency or a specific treatment like implants or whitening. If the answer names three practices near them and yours isn't one, you never get the call. AI visibility tells you whether you're in those answers.

What patients ask AI about dentists

Dental questions are local, specific and often urgent. They usually combine a treatment, a place and a reassurance:

Example patient questions

  • best dentist in Dubai Marina for a nervous patient
  • emergency dentist open on Sunday near JLT
  • how much do dental implants cost in Abu Dhabi?
  • family dentist that accepts my insurance near me
  • cosmetic dentist for veneers with good reviews

Each of these is a separate visibility question. A practice can be named for "family dentist" and never for "implants". Build your list from the treatments you most want to be found for — the AI prompt generator helps.

What ChatGPT and Perplexity visibility means for a practice

With web search on, both assistants look up practices for the area and treatment, then write a short answer — often two to five names with a reason for each ("specialises in implants", "open late"). Being in that short list is the goal; there is no page two.

The two engines behave differently. ChatGPT tends to write a recommendation with reasons; Perplexity leans more visibly on the sources it cites. Tracking both shows whether you're missing from one of them. Details: ChatGPT rank tracker and Perplexity rank tracker.

Mentions vs citations for dentists

A mention is your practice named in the answer. A citation is one of your pages linked as a source. For most practices the mention is what brings patients — but citations matter too: a treatment-price page or an emergency-hours page that gets cited puts your site in front of the patient even when another practice is recommended.

Competitor visibility

The practices AI names instead of you are your real competition for that question — not necessarily the ones you compete with on Google. Look at what the named practices make easy to verify: treatments listed by name, opening hours, languages spoken, the areas they serve, and reviews on the sites AI reads.

Sources AI may rely on for dental questions

Which sites are cited depends on the question and location, so check your own answers rather than assuming. Source types that commonly show up for local healthcare questions include:

  • the practice's own website, especially treatment and pricing pages;
  • local business listings and map profiles;
  • healthcare and dental directories, and booking platforms;
  • review sites and "best dentists in [area]" roundups;
  • insurance provider network lists, where relevant.

Your report shows exactly which domains were cited for your questions — that's your list of places to be accurately described.

Practical steps to improve your practice's AI visibility

  1. Give every main treatment its own page that says what it is, who it's for, typical price range (if you publish prices) and how to book.
  2. State your location, the neighbourhoods you serve, opening hours and emergency availability in plain text on your site.
  3. Keep your name, address, phone and hours identical across your website, map profiles and directories.
  4. Make sure you're listed — accurately — on the directories and booking sites that appear in your AI answers.
  5. Answer the questions patients ask (cost, pain, recovery time) on your site, with specifics.
  6. Check that AI crawlers can read your site with the robots.txt AI checker.

Only publish claims you can back up — qualifications you hold, treatments you offer, prices you actually charge. Health information should stay accurate and conservative.

How YourAIRank tracks a dental practice

Start with the free AI visibility checker: we read your site, ask ChatGPT 3 patient questions without your practice's name, and show whether you're named, who is named instead, and which sources were cited. Pro monitors up to 10 questions you choose on ChatGPT and Perplexity every 7 days, so you can see whether changes to your site and listings work. Pro is launching soon.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI recommend my dental practice if I'm not on page one of Google?

+

It can. AI assistants pull from several sources at once — directories, reviews, local roundups — not only the top Google results. Being well described across those sources matters.

Should I include my practice name in the questions I track?

+

No. Track the questions new patients ask without knowing you. Branded questions only show how AI describes you, not whether it recommends you.

Does this work for practices with several locations?

+

Yes — track location-specific questions for each area you serve, worded the way patients ask.

Do you invent a visibility score?

+

No. You see real answers and counts, for example "named in 2 of 5 questions", plus the sources and competitors behind them.
