Track Your Brand's Visibility in ChatGPT
Choose the questions your customers ask ChatGPT. YourAIRank asks them on a schedule, records whether ChatGPT mentions or recommends you, where you appear, who is recommended instead and which sources it cites — and shows how that changes over time.
What ChatGPT rank tracking means
There's no page-one ranking in ChatGPT. When someone asks for a recommendation, ChatGPT writes an answer — sometimes a short list of businesses, sometimes one suggestion, sometimes none. "Ranking" in ChatGPT therefore means three things you can actually measure:
- Presence — does the answer name your business at all?
- Recommendation — are you recommended, or only mentioned in passing?
- Order — when the answer lists several options, where do you appear?
Because answers vary from run to run, a single result tells you little. Tracking the same questions repeatedly shows your typical position and whether it is improving.
Prompt monitoring: the questions you track
Tracking starts with the questions that matter to your business — for example "best cosmetic dentist in Dubai Marina" or "CRM for a 10-person sales team". Pro tracks up to 10 questions per website. You can start from the questions generated by the free check, edit them, pause them or add your own.
Every question is asked exactly as written, without your brand name and without instructions that could steer the answer.
Brand mentions and recommendations
For each answer we record whether your brand appears — matched on your name, aliases and domain — and classify it:
- Direct recommendation — ChatGPT recommends you as an option.
- Mentioned, not recommended — you're named, but not suggested.
- Cited as source only — your website is linked as evidence, but your brand isn't named.
- Not mentioned — you don't appear.
When ChatGPT lists several businesses, we record your position in that list. A brand and its own product names count once, so the position stays honest.
Competitor visibility in ChatGPT
Every business ChatGPT recommends in your tracked answers is recorded as a competitor — but only if it appears in the answer text and is a real alternative for the question. Supporting tools, directories and publications aren't counted as competitors.
Over time you see which competitors appear most often, on which questions, and whether they're gaining or losing ground between checks.
Citations and sources
When ChatGPT searches the web, it attaches links to parts of its answer. We store those cited links separately from the pages its search looked at but didn't cite, and flag which ones are your site, a competitor, or a third party.
If you want your pages to be among those links, how to get cited by ChatGPT explains what helps. To be named and recommended in the answer itself, read how to rank in ChatGPT.
Historical changes
Pro re-checks your questions every 7 days and keeps every result. The dashboard shows your mention rate per check, competitor changes compared with the previous check, and the sources cited most often. You also get 20 on-demand re-checks a month for when you've changed something and want to see the effect.
Trends only appear once there are at least two real checks to compare. We never draw a trend from a single result.
Example workflow
Example · illustrative questions, not real results
- 1. Track: "best physiotherapy clinic in Abu Dhabi"
- 2. Week 1: not mentioned — 4 clinics recommended
- 3. Fix: add services + area pages; update directory listings
- 4. Weeks 2–6: watch mention type, position and cited sources
The point is to connect changes you make with what ChatGPT says — not to chase a single lucky answer.
Methodology
- Questions are answered by an OpenAI model with OpenAI's live web search tool, through the official API.
- Each question is asked as a customer would ask it: no brand name, no steering instructions.
- Brand matching is deterministic; competitor names are verified against the answer text.
- Cited sources come from the links ChatGPT attaches to its answer — never from URLs guessed from the text.
- Answers in the ChatGPT app can differ because of memory, personalisation, location and model version. We report what the API with web search returns, and say so in every report.
Frequently asked questions
Can you tell me my exact ChatGPT ranking?
+
There's no fixed ranking to report. ChatGPT writes a new answer each time. We measure what you can rely on: how often you're mentioned or recommended, your position when answers list options, and how both change across repeated checks.
How is this different from the free AI visibility checker?
+
The free checker is a one-off snapshot of a few generated questions. The ChatGPT rank tracker monitors the questions you choose, on a schedule, and keeps the history.
Does it work for local businesses?
+
Yes. Questions can include your city or area, and the search uses your business's country when it's known.
Do you use the ChatGPT app?
+
No. We use OpenAI's official API with live web search, the closest programmatic equivalent. Results can differ from the app for the reasons above.
Which other AI platforms can I track?
+
Pro currently monitors ChatGPT and Perplexity.
