AI Visibility for Restaurants

Diners ask AI for a table with conditions attached: the cuisine, the area, the occasion, a dietary need, a budget, an opening time. The answer names a handful of places and says why each fits. AI visibility shows whether your restaurant is on that list — and whether what the answer says about your menu and hours is true.

Five questions diners ask AI

Example diner questions · two set in Dubai

  • best iftar buffet in Downtown Dubai for a family of six
  • late-night shawarma near Al Karama open after midnight
  • gluten-free pizza in Barcelona's Gràcia district
  • restaurant in Soho with a set menu for a group of 12
  • best omakase in Melbourne under $150 a person

Occasion, diet, group size, price and time act as filters. A restaurant passes them only if those facts are written down somewhere an assistant can read.

Where AI looks when someone wants to eat out

The links attached to your own results show the real mix in your city. Restaurant answers usually draw on:

  • review platforms and map listings, especially recent review text;
  • city food guides and "best of" lists from local media;
  • food blogs and creators who write about specific dishes;
  • reservation platforms, which carry opening times and booking options;
  • your own site — but mostly for menu, hours and booking facts.

Mention vs citation for a restaurant

A mention is your restaurant's name in the answer — that's what fills tables. A citation is a linked page the answer relied on, and for restaurants it's usually a review platform or a food guide rather than your own website.

That makes the cited guides worth reading closely: if a guide that keeps being cited for "best brunch in your area" doesn't list you, that's the gap. When your own site is cited, it's typically for a fact — opening hours, a dish, a price — so keep those current.

Six steps for restaurants

  1. Publish the menu as text on your site, with dietary markers where they're accurate — not only as a PDF or photo.
  2. List opening hours including late nights, holidays and seasonal changes such as Ramadan hours.
  3. Say plainly what you're good for: dates, families, groups, business lunches, quick bites.
  4. Explain booking: walk-ins, online reservations, private dining and the group size you can seat.
  5. Make your hours and details match on every map listing and reservation platform.
  6. Track the cuisine-plus-area questions you want to win, and re-check after menu or hours changes.

How YourAIRank tracks a restaurant

The free AI visibility checker writes 3 diner questions from your website and asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews; when your city is known, it's used as the search location. Pro tracks up to 10 questions every 7 days and lists the restaurants, guides and listings that appear instead of you. Pro is launching soon.

Many "where to eat" searches still start on Google — the Google AI Overview tracker shows whether an AI Overview appears and which places it names.

Frequently asked questions

We have great reviews but AI never names us. Why?

+

Usually the facts behind the question are missing: the assistant can't tell that you take groups, open late or have vegan mains. Make them explicit. More in why a business doesn't show in ChatGPT.

Is a PDF menu a problem?

+

It makes your dishes and prices harder to use in an answer. Keep the PDF if you like, but publish the menu as text as well.

Should we track questions for nearby landmarks?

+

Yes, if guests genuinely come from there — "near the stadium", "near the metro station" — and you can serve them.

We also run rooms. Which page fits?

+

See AI visibility for hotels; for other local venues, local businesses.
